GSCE Maths
Whether your child is struggling with the basics or pushing for a Grade 9 we can help.
Our GCSE students come to us for a wide range of reasons. Perhaps it’s the absence of a regular maths teacher at school or they’ve been moved down a set or that they struggle to ask for help in class. Quite often, it’s simply a case that the teacher has moved on to the next maths topic in class too quickly before a skill has been embedded, leading to a superficial understanding and an increasing lack of confidence.
As an experienced secondary maths teacher, Simon is fully up to date with the GCSE exam syllabuses along with their increased levels of challenge. For this reason, exam preparation cannot be rushed or left too late. It’s important to have sufficient time to prepare thoroughly.
Guiding students through the key areas of the GCSE framework, we help to ensure a strong and confident understanding of the core elements and grade boundaries.
Pupils often bring in exam papers or homework questions from school, taking a level of responsibility for their learning. We’re always delighted as it show us that your child is starting to become more of an active learner; a skill needed throughout their future career. This doesn’t happen by accident. We begin to model right from the initial assessment. Rather than give your teenager a test to do, we talk about their grade, their next step requirements, why they think they need help and support, engaging in a two way dialogue straight away. We mentor and support our students in equal measure.
We also make use of past papers to work on exam technique. As we have a wide range of resources available, we are able to respond to learning needs as they arise. However, the resource just allows practice; the skill is knowing how to teach, to explain and to give a method of approach that works. As qualified professional teachers we can do this most effectively.

GCSE English
A key requirement of GCSE English Language is that students are able to proficiently engage with both fiction and non-fiction texts. Students must develop the ability to extract key information and analyse writers’ techniques effectively. In addition, they are expected to produce a diverse range of written work that demonstrates fluency, structure and mastery of various literary techniques.
Achieving success in GCSE English is defined by securing at least a grade 5, with grade 4 considered a standard pass. Our tailored tuition programmes are designed to equip students with the confidence and skills necessary to write with clarity, structure and purpose.
We also prepare students for the demands of GCSE English Literature by encouraging in-depth knowledge of set texts and key quotations. We provide structured support in planning and articulating responses to exam questions, ensuring that students can express their ideas in a clear and coherent manner.
Understanding poetry and its techniques, structure and form can be particularly challenging for many students. We help to demystify this subject area, helping learners build confidence and develop insightful analytical skills.
Our tutoring approach is highly personalised. We prioritise building strong tutor-student relationships and understanding each student’s unique needs, ensuring a supportive and effective learning experience.
We’ll equip students with practical strategies to help them grasp new concepts and make the most of their revision time outside of class. Our focus is on effective exam preparation, showing them how to use proven techniques to strengthen their knowledge and skills with confidence.
