I started my teaching career in 1991 in Gillingham, Kent, teaching PE; understanding the importance of confidence in the process of learning. I moved in to teaching maths becoming a specialist Maths/SEN teacher in a Specific Learning Difficulties unit within a mainstream school. This gave me the insight that all students learn quite differently and that teaching is really easy until a child says “I don’t understand”. At that point you either keep saying the same thing again and again or you roll your sleeves up and find a way to show and explain a different way. This belief shaped my teaching in school and is carried on today – my role is to find a ‘way in’ for each child when they hit that wall.

I’ve tutored children since 2004 and have worked with all types of students, from all backgrounds … and all types of parents too !! I even attempted to tutor my own children when they were at school …. Easier said than done though. It’s much easier when they’re not your own!
