Meet The Owners

Weald Tutoring is owned and run by husband and wife team, Sally and Simon Fisher.

We’re Simon and Sally, a husband-and-wife team with over 50 years of combined teaching experience. Since 2004, we’ve been tutoring children in Ashford and in 2015 we proudly opened a second centre in Hawkhurst. Our shared passion is simple: helping children build confidence, overcome challenges and enjoy learning.

I’m Simon, and I began my teaching career in 1991 in Gillingham, Kent, as a PE teacher, where I quickly learned how vital confidence is to learning. I later retrained as a Maths and SEN specialist, working in a Specific Learning Difficulties unit within a mainstream school. That experience shaped my belief that teaching isn’t about saying the same thing again and again — it’s about finding the right “way in” when a child hits a wall and says, “I don’t understand.” Since 2004, I’ve tutored children of all ages and backgrounds, always looking for that approach that unlocks learning. (Although, I’ll admit, tutoring my own children was the toughest challenge of all!)

I’m Sally, and I started teaching in 1994 as a History and English teacher before going on to a number of senior roles here in Kent. Throughout my career, one driving passion has remained constant: understanding how children learn best. Inside the classroom my teaching  was recognised by the DfE  who awarded me Advanced Skills Teacher status. My classroom understanding of how children learn also  introduced a parallel career outside the classroom; working on national initiatives to introduce Learning Objectives across UK schools and as the lead consultant on a Formative Assessment publication. I’ve loved seeing the difference the right support can make to a child’s confidence and learning.

Tutoring allows me to do what I value most — working directly with young people, helping them overcome challenges, and celebrating those “lightbulb moments” when things click. It’s a joy to have a front-row seat every day!

Together, we bring experience, dedication, and a shared belief that every child deserves to succeed with the right support. Through our centres in Ashford and Hawkhurst, we’re proud to provide personalised, caring and effective tutoring that makes a real difference in children’s learning journeys.
