How we work

First Steps

The first step is to book your child in for a free educational assessment with us. This comprehensive assessment allows us to see where your child is currently strong and where any weaknesses may be. As important, the assessment process also highlights to us how your child approaches their learning. We can use all of this information to tailor our lesson plans uniquely to your child’s needs. This is why we are so successful in helping our students progress; we are honing in on their specific learning requirements all the time.

Our learning environment

Our centre is uniquely designed and solely used for the precious job of supporting your child. We provide a calm and familiar space for your child to feel confident about asking for help, to practise new learning and to make mistakes in a safe and nurturing setting. There are no silly questions here, just a lot of learning. Our environment is professional without feeling like school and that creates the right balance for children. The centre holds an eye watering range of resources, both paper and electronic, and usually both. That’s the reason why you come to our centre; we couldn’t possibly bring all these resources to your home or village hall! Our centre is our learning resource.

What are the benefits of 1:1 tuition in a group setting?

Our method of learning is a maximum of six students to one teacher all working on their own individual learning plan with their teacher; never ever group teaching. This ensures a unique and supportive learning environment.

It’s our professional opinion that a strictly 1:1 setting can feel a bit too intense and pressurised for a student. Hovering constantly over a student when they are practising a new skill is often counterproductive. It is more conducive to learning to teach a new skill and then ‘back off’ a little in order for a student to try it out, knowing you’re only a couple of steps away if reinforcement is needed.

Our approach strikes the perfect balance, offering the benefits of learning alongside peers with the added advantage of guaranteed 1:1 personal attention from an experienced teacher.

About - Weald Tutoring

One of the key benefits of small group tuition is that it helps children develop both independence and confidence. Rather than being reliant on a teacher for constant reassurance, students learn to work more independently, with greater confidence, while still having the support they need. Indeed, many children come to us precisely because they’ve been over supported at school and struggle to believe they can do anything on their own.

If we had to sum up in one word what we give to our students, …… it’s confidence.
We understand that our role is to help them be better learners at school. We cannot be in their classroom to do it for them but we can help make them independent learners

Most important is the strong bond between the teacher and student, creating a warm and supportive environment where children feel at ease. In this kind of group setting, students thrive—not just academically but emotionally too. Research shows that learning in a group can ease anxiety and boost motivation, making it an excellent choice for many students.

Unlike school we never group teach.
