Weald Tutoring

11+

We offer comprehensive 11+ tuition, equipping your child with essential skills, techniques and practice through assessments and mock tests. Our structured approach ensures they are fully prepared to meet the challenges of the secondary selection tests while also developing the skills needed to thrive in a grammar school environment.

Our teaching focuses on breaking down each type of question found in Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning papers, demonstrating that every problem has a methodical and logical solution. After all, reasoning is about thinking in a clear, structured way! This logical approach not only helps students tackle exam questions effectively but also provides them with a valuable skill set that will benefit them throughout secondary school and beyond.

The same principle applies to English and Maths. These subjects are not just about recalling knowledge but about applying critical thinking and reasoning skills, combined with accuracy and a strong foundation of subject knowledge.

Our 11+ programme is all about helping your child become an independent thinker, using the reasoning techniques and unique methods we’ve developed over the past 18 years. What sets us apart is our focus on giving your child the tools they need to succeed, teaching them the knowledge, skills, and thought processes required for all four tests throughout the year. While we can’t take the test for them, we provide the right environment, practice materials, and courses to support them every step of the way. One thing we know for sure: the more students practice, the better they do in the Test!

We are often asked, “When should we start?” In our experience, the best time to book an assessment is at the start of Year 4. At this stage, we can provide an honest evaluation of suitability and begin working on key areas to make a real difference.

Children who pass Entrance Exams are typically working above age-related expectations for their year group and are in the top ability groups at school. They tend to have a reading age significantly higher than their chronological age and are keen readers with a broad and varied vocabulary.

Crucially, they are willing to practise and complete their homework regularly. This final point is key—even the most gifted children need to develop the discipline of learning and applying methods consistently.

We also recognise that parents play a vital role in this journey. That’s why we provide clear guidance, demystify the process, and offer expert support every step of the way. As a local educator – and as a parent who has been through the process myself – I understand the transition to secondary school both professionally and personally. We’re here to support both you and your child with knowledge, experience and reassurance.
